The realo­ca­tion of Chiro MIK MAK was an inte­res­ting assign­ment. Thanks to this project, the youth orga­ni­sa­tion would get a brand new youth center with its own playing ground, right next to the adja­cent park ​“het Zeen”. Therefore, it proved to be an excel­lent oppor­tu­nity to adapt infra­struc­ture and surroun­dings to the users and to design a buil­ding opti­mized to the youth orga­ni­sa­ti­on’s acti­vi­ties. At the same time, the buil­ding needed to be multi­pur­pose so it could be a poten­tial added value for a much bigger group.

The play street is the beating heart of the entire accom­mo­da­tion. It is the place where parents drop off their children. It is the place where all the emphasis is put on playing; playing in a deli­mited, roofed outside space. But is is also the place that ties all the other func­tions. Therefore the open charachter and the outside space, typical of a youth orga­ni­sa­tion, always has a central spot in the new infrastructure.

HAHBO LLEXX

HAHBO LLEXX’s modular construc­tion system is a unique prefa­bri­cated construc­tion consis­ting of timber frame walls combined with cold-rolled steel elements. Working with these modular buil­ding compo­nents gives desig­ners a very strict basic grid. The LLEXX modules have fixed sizes, which is why we have based construc­tion upon fixed module measures of 4 by 8 meters. This creates a very clear format in which we can make our designs, allo­wing us to carry out the project in a direct and concrete manner. Furthermore, thanks to many colla­bo­ra­tions we are fami­liar with the LLEXX modules, which is why we are able to crea­ti­vely explore the boun­da­ries of the modular construc­tion system. This way, we keep looking for crea­tive ways to inte­grate all required func­tions into a cohe­rent whole, respec­ting all internal and external relations.
