The realocation of Chiro MIK MAK was an interesting assignment. Thanks to this project, the youth organisation would get a brand new youth center with its own playing ground, right next to the adjacent park “het Zeen”. Therefore, it proved to be an excellent opportunity to adapt infrastructure and surroundings to the users and to design a building optimized to the youth organisation’s activities. At the same time, the building needed to be multipurpose so it could be a potential added value for a much bigger group.
The play street is the beating heart of the entire accommodation. It is the place where parents drop off their children. It is the place where all the emphasis is put on playing; playing in a delimited, roofed outside space. But is is also the place that ties all the other functions. Therefore the open charachter and the outside space, typical of a youth organisation, always has a central spot in the new infrastructure.
HAHBO LLEXX
HAHBO LLEXX’s modular construction system is a unique prefabricated construction consisting of timber frame walls combined with cold-rolled steel elements. Working with these modular building components gives designers a very strict basic grid. The LLEXX modules have fixed sizes, which is why we have based construction upon fixed module measures of 4 by 8 meters. This creates a very clear format in which we can make our designs, allowing us to carry out the project in a direct and concrete manner. Furthermore, thanks to many collaborations we are familiar with the LLEXX modules, which is why we are able to creatively explore the boundaries of the modular construction system. This way, we keep looking for creative ways to integrate all required functions into a coherent whole, respecting all internal and external relations.
