BureauBR is composed of two offices in two locations, namely one in Bree, which originated in 1987, and since 2021, also one in Brussels. This occasion initiated the search for a suitable space for the new branch, which brought us to the North Quarter. The complementary nature of the regional team in Bree and the international one in Brussels is reflected in the office spaces. Zooming in, BureauBR(ussel) is located on the ground floor of a residential tower, overlooking the Ferme du Parc Maxilien. Given the context, there is an intensified flow of residents, walkers, firefighters, pupils, and even peacocks, passing by everyday. As the surroundings inspire us daily, we also want to give something back and integrate well into the context. The large display window blurrs the line between inside and outside, as if it were an extension of the sidewalk. This allows for small conversations with passers-by. Also a bench, positioned outside in front of our window, is willingly used by everyone. The aim of our office space, is to use it as a canvas, which can be adapted to various functions and people. The groundfloor, therefore, uses three large green curtains that can be moved around in order to organise the room according to the needed layout. The concept has previously demonstrated its practicality by serving as a day studio for a film production by RICTS students, for a neighbourhood meeting of landscape architects OLM for the new Parc Maximilien, lunch breaks, and other events. Finally, the first floor acts as permanent workspace for ourselves and other professionals, that can rent a long-term co-working space. Also here, a curtain plays an essential part in the setting, as it enhances the intimate atmosphere and blends well into the residential facade through its subtle kitchen towel pattern.
