BureauBR is composed of two offices in two loca­tions, namely one in Bree, which origi­nated in 1987, and since 2021, also one in Brussels. This occa­sion initi­ated the search for a suit­able space for the new branch, which brought us to the North Quarter. The comple­men­tary nature of the regi­onal team in Bree and the inter­na­ti­onal one in Brussels is reflected in the office spaces. Zooming in, BureauBR(ussel) is located on the ground floor of a resi­den­tial tower, over­loo­king the Ferme du Parc Maxilien. Given the context, there is an inten­si­fied flow of resi­dents, walkers, fire­figh­ters, pupils, and even peacocks, passing by everyday. As the surroun­dings inspire us daily, we also want to give some­thing back and inte­grate well into the context. The large display window blurrs the line between inside and outside, as if it were an exten­sion of the side­walk. This allows for small conver­sa­tions with passers-by. Also a bench, posi­ti­oned outside in front of our window, is willingly used by everyone. The aim of our office space, is to use it as a canvas, which can be adapted to various func­tions and people. The ground­floor, there­fore, uses three large green curtains that can be moved around in order to orga­nise the room accor­ding to the needed layout. The concept has previously demon­strated its prac­ti­ca­lity by serving as a day studio for a film produc­tion by RICTS students, for a neigh­bour­hood meeting of lands­cape archi­tects OLM for the new Parc Maximilien, lunch breaks, and other events. Finally, the first floor acts as perma­nent workspace for ourselves and other profes­si­o­nals, that can rent a long-term co-working space. Also here, a curtain plays an essen­tial part in the setting, as it enhances the inti­mate atmos­p­here and blends well into the resi­den­tial facade through its subtle kitchen towel pattern.
