The master plan of Wijdbosch focusses strongly on slow roads that create effi­cient links to the diffe­rent func­tions of the neigh­bour­hood (youth center, scouts, center, parks, etc.). Research indi­cated that all around the lot, people used formally exis­ting roads as well as new paths created through frequent use. This led us to design a beam-shaped volume with a public passage in the middle and another one on the side. This creates a perme­a­bi­lity throug­hout the site, allo­wing for a semi-public green space in the back that both local and new resi­dents can enjoy.

The linear volume clearly deli­ne­ates the street, while func­ti­o­ning at the same time as head of the long park designed by OMGEVING. By crea­ting a diffe­rent facade at the front and back side, there is a distinct diffe­rence in dyna­mics that results in a more private feeling in the back. The back side of the square connects to the network of path­ways, at the same time keeping the neces­sary distance from the private terraces of the residents.

Het line­aire volume geeft een duide­lijke afba­ke­ning aan de straat en tege­lij­ker­tijd een duide­lijk hoofd aan het lange park ontworpen door OMGEVING. Door een gevel­wer­king die anders is aan voor- en achter­zijde ontstaan er verschillen in dyna­miek die zorgen voor een meer privaat gevoel aan de achter­zijde. De route langs­heen het gebouw alter­neert tussen gesloten en open ruimtes. Aan de voor­kant van ons gebouw: terug liggend op het park als verlen­ging van het groen, maar ook om een pocket te creëren dat zorgt voor een duide­lijke wayfin­ding op de site. De straat vervol­gend, lopen we al kijkend in de rich­ting van de water­toren, tot aan het einde het CAW-plein de door­gang weer verbreedt.
